Karai (辛い) is a Japanese word commonly used to describe the flavor "spicy/hot". However, karai can also mean "extremely severe", "harsh", "strict" or "storm". (The word also shares the same kanji (辛) as the word tsurai which means "difficult", "painful", or "cruel".) It should also be noted that another spelling (Kurai) means "dark."

Karai is the second born in the litter after her twin brother Kage. Although she is female, she was one of the boldest among the other pups in the pack. Often causing trouble with Kage she also played a role in keeping the alpha's son from picking on a few of the other pups. She had a reputation of being rather adventurous since she often strayed from the den and made it hard for any nanny to find her, and also because she was headstrong. At this young age she often learned to love hearing stories. Particularly those that were about Paradise. With those stories stored safe in mind, her yearning and curiosity grew in her hopes to find it, even if her brother did not take the stories so seriously as they grew up. She often thought about what it may offer and how she would get there. The pack alphas tended to disapprove how she was not kept in check with her headstrong nature, since she went against the rules (including going to Paradise). Since her mother's rank (Beta) she was to be paired with the alpha's son as was agreed on before she was born. Though she never accepted the bethroyal.

Her past was a rough one especially after losing her pack and being only one of less than a dozen survivors with her twin brother Kage at a young age (14/15 in human year and a year and a half in wolf years). She was in turmoil after losing her mother and took the longest to recuperate from the loss. The alpha's son had been persistent and tried to take advantage of her as she tried to deal with the loss. Eventually she managed to aways get away from him and move on. Learning to survive with her brother they managed to live through the struggles (and a betrayal from one she trusted). She doesn't quite trust strangers so she may seem sometimes sarcastic, distant and cold but can warm up to them if they gain her trust. She grew to dislike humans as she got older seeing them as nothing more than insignificant creatures that deserved to be cast out of Paradise. Also Karai tends to prefer the forests away from the city since she values her freedom and feel trapped behind city walls. She won't often enter a human city unless it's for an easy meal or a safe spot when there are dangers present.

Her biggest advantage is her agility and cunningness. Similar to Tsume she seems to have his sort of personality (though not quite as hostile most of the time). She is never one to back down from a fight and will stand her ground. So the phrase, "All bark no Bite" doesn't apply to her much. Any strangers, posing males or lone wolves are enough to get her on edge to be defensive, it's nothing personal but she just doesn't tend to get along with them with the exception of her brother (this is due to her past negative experiences). Both siblings have a strong bond but they have their rivalry and arguments every so often, especially when Karai doesn't heed orders. She is observant bold, feisty, independent, but also quite stubborn (though she may eventually listen to reason if her instincts allow it.)

Often keeping to herself in regards to her past make it hard for her to make close friendships though in the end once you earn her trust she will be loyal to the end. Also no matter how many fights she has with others usually it's never the guilt but her sympathy that wins her over, which often makes her a worse enemy than anyone else.

 It's a weakness she's had from the start, but more often it's wolves that show a sense of innocence that will break her hard shell. She will at times reflect and debate in her the odds of a bad situation that is life risking but makes the reckless decisions at the last second the worse the situation is. She despises being treated as a low ranking member and expects a fair share from those she cooperates with. She can also go either way in terms of being a friend or foe but usually she keeps to herself. The only one she will share her feelings with is her brother but she can still show a warmer side.

Honestly she's not bad at all once you get to know her she may put off like that but it's really somewhat of a bluff.
